Chabad Jewish Center
Serving Atlanta's North-West Suburbs
Including: Acworth, Kennesaw, West Cobb and Woodstock
Rabbi Zalman Charytan, together with his wife Nechami and their two children have recently moved from New York to the North-West Cobb and Cherokee Area after local Jews expressed an interest in establishing a Jewish Chabad Center in this north-western sector of metro Atlanta.
A recent Jewish federation study estimates the Jewish population of Atlanta's North-West Suburbs to be close to 9,000. But with not nearly that amount reflected in synagogues and Jewish community life, Rabbi Efraim Silverman (director of Chabad of Cobb) together with Rabbi Yossi New of Chabad of Georgia, felt that the time was ripe to establish a satellite center in the north-western region of Cobb County. A continuous flow of inquiries from the local Jewish population further led to this decision. The new Chabad center brings the total number of Chabad Centers in the metro Atlanta area to eight.
The Chabad Jewish Center already hosts and array of social services, holiday programs, education for adults and youth as well as Shabbat dinners, adult educational classes, Mommy and Me, Jewish Women's Circle, as well as a monthly Shabbat Morning Prayer Service. New for the 2009-2010 school year is the Chabad Hebrew School offering a full religious and hebrew education for children. as our community grows we will be adding many new innovative programs for all ages.
Part of the nearly 3,000 Chabad-Lubavitch worldwide institutions, the goal of this new center is to assure that every Jew feels comfortable and welcome. Chabad particularly incorporates a strong emphasis on Jewish education and love for one’s fellow man. Rabbi and Mrs. Charytan, the center’s directors, strive to inspire growth, joy and celebration within the Jewish community.
